What is Playcentre?

- Playcentre is a unique organisation for early childhood education. There is no other place quite like it in the world. By building relationships through child-initiated play with choice, parents become the first and best educators of their children. Children gain knowledge through play, participation and positive discipline.
Playcentre Philosophy and Te Whariki
Te Whariki is the national curriculum for early childhood educational services in New Zealand.
There are four principles underpinning Te Whariki:
Whakamana/Empowerment: The early childhood curriculum empowers the child to learn and grow.
Kotahitangata/Holistic Development: The early childhood curiculum reflects the holistic way children learn and grow.
Whanau Tangata/Family and Community: The wider world of family and community is part of the early childhood curiculum.
Nga Hononga/Relationships: Children learn through responsice and reciprocal relationships with people, places and things.
